patient and nurse reading

My Mother, aunt and uncle, and several friends are currently residents of Heritage Manor Nursing Home. My brothers and I did quite a bit of research including unscheduled inspections of several nursing homes in the area before making our decision of a home for Mom. So, it is with some authority I can say that Heritage Manor is a wonderful home for our friends and family. A clean and healthy atmosphere prevails, and the staff are friendly, thoughtful, and helpful at all times. The food is surprisingly delightful even for a little Sicilian Mom. I highly recommend Heritage Manor to any family in need of a home for their loved ones.

My siblings and I were greatly relieved when our mother agreed that the time had come for her to seek a safer home, nearer her children. It was not an easy decision on HER part. She was leaving her cherished home and town after 88 years. Finding a suitable facility to meet her needs was also a challenge for ME, the sibling who would be responsible for overseeing her care.

Her health care is, of course, of the utmost concern. Her attending physician’s Nurse Practitioner is in the facility most days, and is available for consultation with her assigned nurse. Hence, I find that most issues can be dealt with swiftly, in house. The staff at Heritage Manor manage those appointments and transportation in a professional manner. Because of the attention to her physical care, Mama is healthier today than she was when she entered Heritage Manor.

Her health aside, my other real concern was the fact that Mama was increasingly, socially and physically, isolated in her home. NO MORE!! These days she enjoys an active schedule of bingo, movies, coffee & chit chat with her new friends and music, music and MORE music. The activities staff have entertained the residents with tea parties, horse races, flag ceremonies, luncheons and early evening forays to local restaurants. Mama participates in, and thoroughly enjoys, ALL OF THE EXCITEMENT of her new home!

I know that when she is ill, her needs are met. Likewise, when she is well, she is happy, safe, well fed, entertained and surrounded by people who care. Mama has lived at Heritage Manor for two years now and our family will celebrate her 90th birthday soon.

“Nursing home” is a misnomer for Heritage Manor of Mandeville. Why? It’s the consistently cheerful atmosphere. That cheerful atmosphere assures me I chose the right facility for my sister. Yes, the population is … aged and ill … but this atmosphere softens that reality. My sister lives in the Special Care Unit in which the residents have mental limitations. It is very evident to me that safety is the number one priority of the staff, and rightly so.

You have an opportunity to meet with their Care Team of various staff members once every three months. During this meeting, you can discuss the care of your loved one and/or voice any of your concerns regarding their care. Of course, you can voice concerns at any time. On one occasion, I voiced a particular concern, and the staff responded almost instantaneously. They investigated it without hesitation and to my satisfaction. I was impressed.

Activities are offered; dancing and singing groups perform. Holidays, birthdays and even the Saints season are celebrated in grand style. Of course, the residents remain aged and illness is in the air but Heritage provides a home for them.

I guess I never thought I could call this place home. Being forced to leave my home of many years filled with fond memories and feelings of safety and security to move into a facility where initially everyone looked like a stranger was overwhelming. Today, I am proud to say, “This is my residence.” When I go home to visit, I return back to Heritage Manor with a smile on my face. Upon entering the front door, I whisper softly to myself, “no more tears” as I am continuously amazed with the care, kindness, and love that is shown to me by my extended family at Heritage Manor.

I am presently a resident of Roquette Lodge in Mandeville, LA. A few months ago, I was a temporary resident of Heritage Manor for Skilled Rehabilitation Services with plans of regaining strength with intended goals of returning home to my assisted living community. Upon my arrival at the facility, I was pleasantly surprised by the surroundings. I expected a “nursing home” atmosphere and was instead greeted by friendly staff, clean and well-maintained interior and exterior, and a feeling of “home” away from my own home. I obtained my goals and was able to settle back into my normal lifestyle when discharged due to the efforts of a topnotch, personable, reliable, caring Physical and Occupational Therapy team. It’s comforting to know that a well qualified Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is in the community in the event I should need their services again in the future.

The improvement in the quality of my mother’s life was immediately evident. At Heritage Manor, she is content with her peers, in a safe place, with a predictable routine. In an accepting, nurturing environment, she is encouraged to exercise the mental tasks that are still available to her. I love to arrive after a hard day at work and find her conversing with other residents. The entire Heritage Manor Team helped give me a sense of confidence that my mother was in good hands.

Having been a Registered Nurse involved in healthcare for over 30 years and dealing with many of the nursing homes in both St. Tammany and surrounding parishes, I know first hand that the care delivered at Heritage Manor has earned a reputation of quality and commitment that without a doubt sets them apart from all of the rest.

The referrals you supplied were all worthy of benefiting from our outpatient services offered at the day program provided by Beacon Behavioral Health. As an intake coordinator on the Northshore of St. Tammany Parish, I noticed referrals sent to us by Heritage Manor are concise, and the staff strives to ensure that all chart documents are organized, accessible, and ready to be copied. Most of the time, the documents have already been copied in a timely manner and are waiting for me by the time I complete my initial assessment. It’s an absolute pleasure networking with professional providers who always have the residents’ best interests at heart.
